Right, I asked several people how they tell if a guy likes them. Here are the most popular answers:

"There's this guy," the question always starts, "and he does this and he said that and sometimes he does this other thing," you continue. Then comes the actual question, one we get at least twice a day, every day: "Does this mean he likes me?"
Not that it isn't a valid question. Some guys can be hard to read. Not as hard as women, but still a challenge. Problem is, there is no way to know absolutely if a guy likes you, short of him saying so (and even then he might be lying). Every situation is different, every guy is different, and there are always exceptions.
But here's the good news: There are things most guys do when they like a girl that can give them away. If a guy does one of these things, it probably doesn't mean much; if he does 4 or 5 of them, then there's a good chance he likes you. Not a guarantee, but a good chance. You just have to know what to look for.
Most of these won't surprise you. Some might. Consider it a refresher.
  • He smiles at you. A lot.
  • He laughs at your jokes, even the crappy ones.
  • He defends you to others.
  • He asks questions about you and your life beyond the generic "How you doin'?" or "Good weekend?"
  • He jokes about dating you.
  • You catch him staring at you. Your face, that is—if he's staring at your boobs or butt, it could just mean he's perving on you.
  • He's awkward whenever he talks to you. The first time I talked to my wife, I walked into a parking meter. Luckily for me, she found it adorable.
  • He always uses your name when he talks to you. He knows your name and likes to say it.
  • He calls you by a nickname/pet name.
  • He asks you to "hang out" some time. (To a guy, the word date can be like garlic to a vampire, so they'll say "hang out" instead. Whatever you call it, it still means he wants to be around you.)
  • He calls you on the phone. Most guys hate talking on the phone. If a guy calls you, it means one of three things: you're his best friend, he needs help with his homework, or he has the itchy pants for you.
  • He acts more respectable and mature when you're around.
  • He compliments your appearance. "You look nice today" is guyspeak for "I'm attracted to you."
  • When he cracks a joke, you're the first person he looks at for a reaction.
  • He tries go get into the same classes as you.
  • He asks your friends questions about you. He knows they will probably report back to you, but he doesn't care.
  • He touches you, even subtly—a hand on your arm, a pat on your back, a grab of your shoulders. Humans are naturally drawn to things that attract us—we want to look at them, touch them. If you find a guy's hand on you, especially more than once, that's a huge giveaway that he likes you.
  • He asks you what you think about certain other guys. He's trying to find out if you like anyone.
  • He shares an iTunes playlist with you: the 21st century version of making you a mix tape.
  • He asks your advice about other girls. This one could go either way, but getting your take on relationships could be his crafty way of finding out what you like and don't like. Or maybe he's just trying to make you jealous.
  • He notices and remembers things about you that most people don't. Your birthday. What you wore on a certain day. Your favorite TV show. When and where you met your best friend. What you had for lunch yesterday. Average Joe won't remember that shit, even if you tell him. Hot For You remembers all of it (but if he knows stuff about you that you never told him—creeper alert!).

Have you got any ideas on how to tell if a boy likes you?
please, feel free to comment.
If you want to ask a question (sensible ones, mind) there are two ways to go:
1. if you don't mind everyone else using this blog knowing your feelings, comment on a post
2. if you're like me, and you're private about these things, email me at sketchpad9@gmail.com.
I'm always checking my email and always updating my blogs so I'm around and will get back to you ASAP!

STEP 3

Ask him yourself. Once you’re feeling fairly confident that the guy likes you and are tired of waiting around and reading the signs, it may be time to just tell him how you feel and ask if he feels the same way. He could be really shy and may be relieved that you’re taking the initiative. Here’s how to ask him if he really likes you:
  • Find some time to be alone with him. Make sure you don’t ask him when his friends are looking over your shoulder.
  • Be honest and open. Just say you have a crush on him and want to know if he shares your feelings. Before he responds, let him know that it’s no big deal if he doesn’t like you.
  • You should only do this if you’re pretty sure that he likes you. If he has exhibited multiple signs of liking you, then be bold and ask him. If he has shown no signs of liking you, then it may be time to wait to see what happens.
STEP 2

If you’re feeling bold, ask his friends. This is a very dangerous step. There are few boys who would break “bro code” and not run and report your question back to your crush. But if you don’t know who else to ask or if you really trust one of his friends, then casually ask how he feels about you.
  • Though this is a riskier step, his friends will have a better answer than your friends, since they have first-hand information from your guy.
  • Ask his friend if he likes you could also just be a sneaky way to let him know how you feel. If you’re too scared to tell him yourself, this information will get back to him ASAP if you tell the wrong person.
Asking For A Second Opinion

STEP 1

Ask your friends what they think. If you have some close friends who are always hanging around you two, then you may be able to ask them if they think he really likes you. You may be too blinded by Cupid’s arrow to be able to see the situation clearly, but one of your friends may have more insight.
  • Ask a friend you trust who already knows the situation well. If she’s seen you hang out a bunch of times, she should have an opinion.
  • Ask a friend to study the two of you next time you’re together and to report back. Just make sure the friend isn’t being too obvious.
  • Pick a friend whose opinion and judgment you value. Pick someone with good social sense to get the best answer.
  • Tell your friends to be honest. If they really don’t think he likes you, or even know that he likes someone else, then you should benefit from the truth.
STEP 6

See if he flirts with you. This may feel like a no brainer, but it may be harder to tell if he’s flirting with you than you think. Every guy has his own flirting style, and there will be a variety of ways to flirt with you to show that he definitely likes you. Here are a few signs that he’s flirting:
  • If he’s always trying to make you laugh if you have a class together, and even doodles in the margins of your notes, then he’s definitely flirting with you.
  • If he sends you a lot of emoticons when he’s texting, then he’s flirting with you.
  • If he’s always playfully hitting you or giving you a gentle shove, then he’s flirting with you.
  • If he loves dunking you underwater when you’re in a pool, then he is definitely flirting.
  • If he’s always trying to make you laugh or giggle, then he’s definitely flirting. If he blushes when you’re both laughing, then he’s definitely feeling flirtatious.
STEP 5

Analyze your hang-out sessions. Paying attention to how and how often you hang out and to when and where you hang out can give you great insight into whether he just wants to see you ask a friend or if he wants all of your hang-sessions to be more like dates. Here are some points to consider:
  • Notice where you hang out. Do you see him in romantic locations like gardens, nicer wine bars, or places where you see couples hanging out for date nights? If so, then he may want the same for you.
  • Notice who is around when you hang out. If it’s always just the two of you, then he may see you as crush material. But if he’s always inviting ten of his closest bros along, then he may see you just as another friend.
  • Notice when you hang out. If you only see him once a month, then he may not be trying to spend more time with you. But if it feels like you haven’t gone more than a day without seeing him recently, then yeah, he probably likes you.
  • Notice what you do when you hang out. Going out for coffee or a quick lunch is more meant for the friend zone, but going out for dinner or seeing a movie in the evening is a more-than-friend activity.
